Donna manages HIE's central support for school education projects in the region. This is particularly focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics subject areas, along with enterprise related activities. She also looks after HIE's commitment to science engagement projects, such as science festivals and industry liaison. (Donna.Chisholm@hient.co.uk)

Laura manages the regional STEMPOINT, which was established in Aug 2008 following a move away from the old SETPOINT arrangements. Laura works to draw together STEM enhancement and enrichment opportunities from across the UK for teachers to use. She can identify materials, activities and resources to help with interdisciplinary projects. (Laura.Keenan@hient.co.uk)

Donna and Laura manage the Science and Engineering Ambassadors Programme, a national initiative which provides a bridge between employers and schools, helping teachers to find expertise, or inspirational speakers, or helpers for activities. Ambassadors are given training on working with young people, they are subject to regular Disclosure Scotland enhanced checks, and they carry a range of insurances for working with young people, as part of the national programme.

STEM activity
Each group has been issued with 3 outcomes selected from either Maths, Science or Technologies. The outcomes have been taken from the second and third levels.
You are asked to select one of the outcomes and consider an appropriate context for learning. Then list possible learning activities, taking account of links which can be made with other curricular areas. In order to make the learning more meaningful to pupils, specify any links that could be made to industry, services, businesses and so on. Consider any available support from individuals/groups in the community and list these. Please provide names where possible as we hope to build up a bank of contacts which schools could access.
